Engagement and Bridal Sessions
An engagement session is a photography session taken of a
couple before their wedding to commemorate a joyous time in their lives.
Traditionally an enlargement from this session is placed next to the
couple’s guestbook at the reception as a decoration. An additional
enlargement is placed on an easel as a warm welcoming to your guests as
they enter your reception hall.
There's one other important added benefit in having an engagement
portrait created. It gives the couple an opportunity to be in front of
the camera, and the groom can actually meet the
photographer before the wedding!
Imagine this little scene if you will….
It’s the day of the wedding and I am walking into the groom’s dressing
room at the church. There are seven men there, all in tuxedos. I
have no idea who the groom is! He didn’t come to the initial
consultation, only the bride-to-be attended along with her mother.
The groom and I make our introductions for
the first time only one hour before the service is set to start. At this
point I gather everyone up and begin to create a formal group shot of
the groom and groomsmen.
It’s a bit awkward, and it happens all the time. Do I get the job done?
You bet! I’m a professional. But there is that one time in ten that the
expression on the grooms face just isn’t what it should be due to what I can only guess is apprehension.
An engagement session can alleviate this awkwardness. The services of a
good professional photographer are not inexpensive by any means,
especially for a wedding. If the photography at your wedding is
important, and I know it is, then please make sure you do everything you can to ensure
beautiful images.

Bridal portraits are equally important. Normally, the final bridal
portrait will reside with the mother of the bride after the wedding,
although I do have a 5x7 of my wife’s bridal portrait for my self.
One thing I do hear over and over again about a bridal portrait is the
relief of the bride to be in seeing how well her dress photographs and how
her makeup and bouquet look with the dress as well. A bridal portrait is a great trial
run. |
