Raul Brindis 102.9

| | Comments (0)

It’s Sunday, November 12th, and I am at the studio getting ready for tonight’s wedding.
I just got off the phone with my bride for tonight’s wedding to giver her some added assurance that her photographer will be at the church on time. My equipment is packed, and I have about 30 minutes before I have to be on the road, so I thought I would share a story of a radio personality we photographed at the end of last week. His name is Raul Brindis and he hosts a talk show on 102.9.

It was my understanding that he was in need of an executive portrait, but it turned out that what they were really looking for was a new image for their ad campaign to go on the side of all the radio station vans and onto billboards across the Houston area.

Obviously, our communication was a bit off, and I was kind of taken back. After a brief meeting at the conference table, it turns out that what the radio station was looking for was images of Raul on a white background. Again, I was a bit confused. I am The Master of Shadows. Not too many shadows on a white background. (I talked them into letting me do one on a black background :)

The radio station wanted 5 – 7 really good shots, and they wanted each to be good enough to use in their upcoming campaign. Try and think of this. Can you put a single person in front of a white background, and make seven different commercial images? It is no easy task. On top of it all, they needed Raul’s images to be high energy. If you know my work, I am not about huge smiles and high energy. I am about subtle expressions that can last a life time.

At any rate, by the time the session was done, I had shot over 700 images and given it my all. I am actually very pleased with the results, and so is the radio station.
