The Importance of Communication
My neighbor is getting married soon, and she is really planning a beautiful wedding. In fact, she is planning a destination wedding outside of the U.S. Solaris is not shooting their wedding as I have a family and friends policy. At any rate, my neighbor stopped by yesterday because she wanted some advice about what she should do with her photographer.
It turns out that the communication between my neighbor and her photographer has been one way. Her phone calls and emails are not getting answered, and this is causing her a great amount of concern. Understandably so. Should she find another photographer and lose her retainer? Should she try and resolve the issues with her photographer, and if so, how will she feel about that photographer on her wedding day? What if she is still waiting to receive her images after the wedding and is still unable to get her photographer to communicate with her? These are all very serious questions.
I understand that communication is important to a Bride To Be. Often times our clients just want to check in to make sure that everything is still OK. They’re looking for a response from their photographer that gives them a nice warm fuzzy feeling that everything is OK on their end. We’re on it.
At Solaris, we have a secret weapon to ensure that questions from our clients get answered in a timely manner. Her name is Beth. Beth is my Production Manager here at Solaris.
I believe that communication between Solaris and our clients is so important that I have hired a staff member to do nothing but communicate with our clients. Beth’s purpose here is communication. The reputation of a company can be severely tarnished by a lack of prompt communication, as it has been with my neighbor and her photographer.
I like to meet with all of our prospective clients in person, because I know that the couples want to interview the photographer, and not some salesperson. But once a couple decides that Solaris is where they want to call home, Beth takes over.
Beth will book your wedding. Beth will book your Bridal or Engagement sessions and she will call to confirm those sessions. She will contact you a week before your wedding to verify times and locations and to let you know exactly what time I will be arriving at the wedding.
Two to three days after your wedding is over, Beth will contact you via email to give you instructions on how to access your images on your private online gallery. And when you’re your online gallery is getting ready to expire, Beth will contact you again to give you a heads up plus information on how you can extend the life of your online gallery.
At Solaris, we want you to know that we are going to be there for you, and it all starts with communication. After all, that’s what photography is all about. Communication.
