Unfortunately I’m not available to photograph Juan and Maria on their date as I am already booked. However, they still wanted me to create a unique Engagement Portrait for them.

Here is my last shot in the studio for this week.

Enjoy.

Ali and Allen were married earlier this year on an absolutely beautiful day at one of Houston's great Wedding Venues, Butler’s Courtyard . One of those days where you just know it is the nicest day of the year.

The team at Butler’s is absolutely fabulous. It’s like having a group of wedding coordinators at your wedding.

Thought I would start off by displaying some of the Engagement Session taken in the studio.

Katy and Joshua have been fabulous clients, and they are so easy for me to work with. Love em!
Their engagement session was taken behind The Wortham Center downtown and some surrounding areas.
I hope you enjoy them as much as they do.

Shadows galore in this session due to the time of day, which of course was planned.

Katy and Joshua - Thanks again for the iTunes gift card! I bought the new album titled Snakes nad Arrows from Rush! Very nice.

What will be on display at the entrance of your reception?

If you have been deciding between an engagement session or a bridal session, then I would suggest an engagement session. This will give you both time in front of the camera before the wedding day, along with giving both of you and your family future enjoyment.

I meant to get these on the blog before I left for my out of town wedding last weekend, but I just ran out of time. Sorry about that Paige. Thanks for your patience.

Paige had asked for me to put up the images she purchased from her engagement session for her parents to see, and I am more than happy to do so. I was able to create both bridal and engagements for Paige, along with here wedding which can be seen in the previous post. Her reception was at Brennan’s, and they always through a great party!

Hartley Engagement Session

Engagement Session / Tattoos

I had an engagement session in the studio today. This particular couple is actually already married, so I am not sure that you can actually call it an engagement session. They are having their official ceremony and reception later this year.

Because the couple is already married they allowed me some freedom to create some portraiture that was a bit more on the dramatic side, as opposed to the traditional lovey dovey shots you would normally expect from an engagement session. Specifically I had instructions to show the Husbands tattoos.

Now, this is an instruction that I get about once a year. Normally, I would not put up images of tattoos. It just doesn’t say wedding. But these images I really like, so I wanted to share.

You can see that the session started off like a standard engagement sessions, and then I ust went off the deep end.

Brooke and her fiancé Mike booked me last July to photograph their wedding while they were living in Tucson. They have since moved to Houston and we finally got around to taking their engagement session outdoors. One problem with having a session outdoors is that there are rain delays. I think we had to reschedule their session four times due to bad weather.

I have been shooting at Herman Park quite a bit lately and I am getting some great results. If you are reading this on Saturday, chances are I am there now as I do not have a wedding this weekend. Any time I do not have a wedding on a Saturday I seemed to get booked up with engagement and bridal sessions. This weekend is packed with sessions, as I will not have another free weekend until the end of August!

Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining. Not one bit. I don’t take one wedding for granted. 2007 is schedule to be my biggest year yet and I am ready for it!

Here are some images from Brook’s engagement session. Click the link below to see the rest of the images.

The Vickrey Proposal.

This story is a first for me....

Last Monday, we received a phone call from a gentlemen wanting us to photograph his proposal that was to take place on that Friday at one of Houston's finest restaurants, Mark's. After a few minutes on the phone, it was obvious that we would need to meet in order to go over all of the details.

Mr. Vickrey and I met last Wednesday. After our meeting we then took a short field trip to Mark’s so I could scope out the restaurant, which I really didn’t need to do because my wife and I go there every year for our anniversary. While there, we meet with the manager and told him of our plan, and he was more than accommodating.

Friday night came, and I arrived at the restaurant dressed as a waiter so I would blend in. While I have never seen a waiter carrying around a camera, I wanted to do everything that I could think of to blend in so I would not ruin the surprise.

As it turns out, it worked like a charm, and the evening went off without a hitch.

If you would like to see the entire proposal as a slide show, visit our web site and click on the link marked VIEW YOUR PORTRAIT and enter in the password vickrey.

Welcome to the 40's.

I had a vreally fun shoot three nights ago. In fact, I had been looking forward to this shoot for some time. A couple had an unusual request for their engagement portrait. They had found me through their wedding planners Schwartz and Woodward. What they had in mind was a 40’s style image of the husband reading the paper and smoking his pipe, with the wife at his side, spatula in one had, and dinner served in the other. Her world in perfect order and harmony. But the overall theme was to be light and fun.

We came out with a few really great and fun images. One, was a bit different than ordered, as I had our wife holding a knife in defiance. Just a bit of a twist.

Enjoy.

I had a very fun couple come into the studio today. They were a bit nervous when we started the session, but by the end, we had created some fabulous imagery.

"Nothing is so powerful as an insight into human nature, what compulsions drive a man, what instincts dominate his action, even though his language so often camouflages what really motivates him. For if you know these things about a man you can touch him at the core of his being." – Bill Bernbach

These portraits are from an outdoor engagement shoot of a couple that booked Solaris in January of this year for their wedding in September. These were taken last week in one my favorite locations.

If you know my style of photography, then you can see what I am trying to do in this image. I have attempted to place my subjects as part of their environment, and I have drawn your attention to them with the use of shadows.
